[John Jung-hoon Lee Ph.D]


Jung-hoon (John) Lee is currently an associate dean and a professor of Technology & Innovation management at the Graduate School of Information, Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea. He was also a visiting scholar with the Stanford Program on Regions of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SPRIE), Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2011/2012. Professor Lee’s recent research focuses on “Smart City”, specially the IT-based service design and implementation in urban planning and development. He has been involved in R&D projects sponsored by the South Korean government, including developing a national strategy and vision for Smart City, analyzing and designing Smart City services and implementation and developing Performance Management Systems for Smart City operations. Active in leading the development of 5-year master plans for smart cities, he served as associate project manager for Seoul Metropolitan City and Busan, South Korea’s second largest metropolis. His current research projects are on urban regeneration (2014-2016) and smart city R&D projects (2014-2018) which both are supported by the Ministry of Land and Transport. He is also participating IoT based Smart City Development and Living Lab project (2015-2017) with SK Telecom, largest mobile carrier and Busan Metropolitan City, sponsored by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, South Korea. Prof. LEE also actively contributed his research works in academic journals. His paper on “Towards an effective framework for building smart cities” was one most of downloaded articles in Technological Forecasting & Social Change. He also contributed several consulting and advisory services including CISCO, GSMA, SKT, LG CNS. He also worked as an external consultant for ITS implementation for UN ESCAP. Professor LEE received a B.Eng./MSc. from the University of Manchester and MSc from the London School of Economics and Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. Prior to joining the GSI faculty at Yonsei University, he worked for LG CNS as a senior business/IT consultant.
